Living in St. George’s

The capital and the neighbourhoods on its hills — what day-to-day life is like and what property costs.

Short answer

St. George’s is a small, walkable harbour capital with real daily life — market, schools, hospital, government, churches — and quiet residential ridges above it where most residents actually live. It is ten minutes from Grand Anse and fifteen from the airport, and property here is priced for Grenadians rather than for the resort market.

The town

The Carenage horseshoe harbour, Fort George, the Saturday market and the Esplanade cruise terminal. Georgian and French colonial buildings, steep streets, and the smell of spices from the warehouses. Offices, banks, government ministries and the General Hospital are all here.

The neighbourhoods

Belmont (where our office is), Marian, Golden Drive, Morne Jaloux and Springs step up the hills to the south and east of town. Family homes on generous lots, fruit trees, verandas facing the sea. Villa and Belmont sit between town and Grand Anse — handy for both.

Daily life

Schools, clinics and shops are within ten minutes; the big supermarkets and mall are at Grand Anse. Traffic into town is real at school hours. Buses run every main road. Evenings are quiet; weekends mean the beach or the country.

Property

Homes from mid-six figures EC$ upwards, building lots on the ridges, hilltop estates like Golden Drive Hilltop Retreat, and commercial buildings in town. See Belmont & St. George’s listings.
